Prepn from vinyl acetate: Christiansen, US 2242237 (1941 to Squibb); Kyrides, US 2330223 (1943 to Monsanto); cf. Skrimshire, GB 540032 (1941 to B.D.H.). Prepd also by condensing tribromoparaldehyde with thiourea:

Properties
Crystals from benzene + petr ether, mp 93°. Distills at 3 mm without
decompn. Sol in hot water. Slightly sol in cold water, alc, ether.
Freely sol in dil HCl and in 20% H2SO4. LD50 orally in rats:
