Prepn: Gmelins, Barium (8th ed.) 30, 223 (1932) and supplement 380-381 (1960).

Properties

Dihydrate, crystals or granules; loses 1H2O at 75° and all the H2O at 120°. Poisonous. mp ≈850° when anhydr. Very sol in water; sol in methanol. Almost insol in ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetone, dioxane.

Use

In the manuf of other bromides; in the prepn of phosphors.
