Prepd from benzene and n-butyl chloride in presence of AlCl3: Schramm, Monatsh. Chem. 9, 621 (1888); by the action of sodium on γ-chloro-sec-butylbenzene: Braun et al., Ber. 46, 1277 (1913); with other products by heating n- or sec-butyl alcohol with 80% H2SO4: Meyer, Bernhauer, Monatsh. Chem. 53, 727 (1929).
