Prepd by adding t-butyl chloride to a cooled slurry of silver nitrite and anhydr ether: Kornblum et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 77, 5528 (1955); by passing NO2 or NO2 + NO into t-butyl alcohol at 25-30°: Treacy, US 2739166 (1956); from t-butanol, sodium nitrite and sulfuric acid: Coe, Doumani, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 70, 1516 (1948).
