Usually prepd from a Cd salt by treatment with KOH: de Schulten, Compt. Rend. 101, 72 (1885); Fricke, Blaschke, Z. Elektrochem. 46, 46 (1940); Scholder, Staufenbiel, Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 247, 271 (1941).

Properties

Powder or trigonal and hexagonal crystals. d 4.79. Dehydration starts at 130° and is complete at 200°. Absorbs CO2 from the air. Practically insol in water; slightly sol in NaOH soln; sol in dil acids, in NH4OH or NH4Cl solns.

In storage battery electrodes.
