usually contains 16-20% water.
Properties
Very hygroscopic hexagonal lamella. Becomes yellow
and completely insol on exposure to air due to liberation of I2 and absorption of CO2. mp 740°; bp 1100°. Very sol in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone;
practically insol in ether, dioxane. The aq soln is neutral or slightly
alkaline. Keep tightly closed and protected
from light.Derivative

Properties
Hexagonal, thick needles, or plates, or lumps,
or powder. Very hygroscopic; becomes yellow in air, mp ≈42°. Freely sol in water, alcohol.
