Description and references
Prepn: Gmelins, Calcium (8th ed.) 28B, 59-69, 341-382 (1956).
Properties
Deliquesc granules, mp ≈560°. Very sol in water, heat being evolved;
freely sol in methanol, ethanol, acetone. Almost insol in concd HNO3. pH of 5% aq soln 6.0. Oxidizer.
Keep well closed. Note: Ca(NO3)2 crystallizes also with 4H2O (30.5%), mp 45°. Technical flake usually
contains 28.6% H2O.Derivative
