Properties

Red cubic crystals. Odor of iodine. Dec to iodine and tetraiodoethylene under the influence of light or heat. d420 4.32. mp 171°. Sol in benzene, chloroform. Dec by hot alcohol. Practically insol in water, but hydrolyzes slowly in contact with water, forming iodoform and iodine.
