Prepd by heating adipic acid to 285-295° in the presence of barium hydroxide, distilling, extracting with ether and fractionating: Thorpe, Kon, Org. Synth. coll. vol. I, 192 (2nd ed., 1941).

Liquid. Agreeable odor, somewhat like peppermint. d418 0.9509. mp -58.2°. bp760 130.6°; bp10 23-24°. Flash pt 85°F. nD20 1.4366. Flammable. Slightly sol in water. Miscible with alc, ether. Polymerizes easily, esp in presence of acids.
