Prepd from 1,3-dibromo-2-methoxypropane by reduction with Zn: Olson et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 69, 2454 (1947); see also Krantz, Jr. et al., J. Pharmacol. 69, 207 (1940); Krantz, Jr., Drake, US 2330979 (1944); Haller, US 2424029 (1947).

Mobile, flammable liq. Odor similar to that of cyclopropane. d425 0.786. mp -119°; bp 44.7°; nD20 1.3802. 100 ml of water dissolve 5.5 g of cyprome ether at 25°. Oil-water coefficient: 6.7 (ethyl ether = 4.5). Vapor press. at 26° (measured in nitrometer): 414 mm (ethyl ether = 555 mm). Explosive mixture, lower limit for air or oxygen: 2.0% v/v (ethyl ether vapor = 2.5 v/v).
