Formed by oxidation of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole.
Properties
Pale yellow needles from benzene. d 1.50. mp 180°; also reported as mp 186°; the commercial product, mp 168° min. Insoluble in water.
Solubility at 25° (g/100 ml): in alcohol <0.2; in acetone <0.5;
in benzene <0.5; in carbon tetrachloride <0.2 (somewhat more
in chloroform); in ether <0.2; in naphtha <0.5.Use
As accelerator in the rubber industry.
