White to brownish-gray, cryst powder, mp 173°. uv max (methanol): 237, 296 nm (ε 8560, 12,500). Sol in 600 parts cold water, more in hot water; sol in alcohol, ether, soln of sodium acetate.

Use

Antiseptic.
