Description and references
Obtained from beechwood tar or by the distillation
of rotten oak wood: Sullivan, Ind. Eng. Chem. 8, 1027 (1916). Most natural fats contain small amounts
(0.2-1%). The seed fat of the Indian tree Adenanthera pavonina is said to contain 25%. Synthesis: Fieser, Szmuszkovicz, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 70, 3352 (1948).
