Prepd by heating dimethylaniline with 40% formaldehyde and concd HCl: Mekel, DE 1026322 (1958 to BASF); Hey, Sanderson, J. Chem. Properties

Lustrous leaflets, mp 90-91°. Sublimes without decompn. bp 390°; bp0.1 155-157°. Insol in water. Sol in benzene, ether, carbon disulfide, acids; slightly sol in cold alcohol; more sol in hot alcohol.

Use

Has been used in manufacture of dyes. As reagent for lead: Dtsch. Med. Wochenschr. 52, 1855 (1926).
