Prepd by catalytic hydrogenation of a sulfonic acid derivative of naphthalene: Lazier, Signaigo, US 2402641 (1946 to du Pont); by reduction of naphthalenesulfonyl chloride with zinc: Holt, US 2216840 (1940 to du Pont).

Crystals from ethanol, disagreeable odor. mp 81°. bp760 286°; bp10.3 146.3°. Very sol in ethanol, ether, petr ether; sparingly sol in water. Slightly volatile with steam.
