Properties

Yellow deliquescent scales. Soly in water (g/l): 642 (20°), 876 (100°). Sol in ethanol, ammonium hydroxide. Insol in nitric acid. Sublimable in absence of air and readily absorbs NH3. The aq soln is acid; pH about 4. Keep well closed. LD50 in mice, rats (mg/kg): 48, 11 i.p. (IARC).

Green, deliquesc crystals or cryst powder. Monoclinic. Structure reported to be trans-[NiCl2(H2O)4].2H2O: Mizuno, J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 16, 1574 (1960), C.A. 55, 26605g (1961). Sol in about one part water, in alcohol.
