Properties
Yellow crystals. d 1.57. mp 130-132°; explodes at about 180-190°. Insol in water.
Sol in alc, ether, benzene, glacial acetic acid. Keep soln in the dark. Causes yellow staining to skin
and hair.Caution
Potential symptoms of overexposure
are sensitization dermatitis, itching, erythema; edema on nasal folds,
cheeks and neck; keratitis; sneezing; anemia; fatigue; coughing, coryza;
irritability; malaise, headache, lassitude and insomnia; nausea, vomiting;

As indicator, 0.1 g in 60 ml alcohol with water
to make 100 ml. pH: 10.8 colorless, 13.0 reddish-brown. One to
five drops of soln required for 10 ml liquid. Salt error said to
be small. Also used in explosives.
