Volatile oil from fruit of Illicium anisatum L., Magnoliaceae (Japanese star anise). Constit. Chiefly anethole; also safrol, eugenol.

Properties

Colorless to slightly yellow liquid. d about 1.006. Solidifies at -10° to -15°. αD20 about -8°.
