Properties

Crystals, mp 224-225° (some decompn). pKa (25°): 6.7 in 40% alcohol. pH of 1% aq soln 4.1; of 5% aq soln 3.7. The free base begins to precipitate when the pH is raised to 5.5. uv max (abs alcohol): 260, 295 nm. Soly (g/100 ml) in water: 10 at 25°; 80 at the bp; in methanol: 27; in abs ethanol: 24; in chloroform: 50. Slightly sol in acetone. Almost insol in benzene, ethyl acetate. LD50 i.v. in mice: 47.5 mg/kg (Winter, Flataker).
