Prepd from phenol and acetyl chloride.
Properties
Colorless, mobile, highly refractive liquid; phenolic
odor. d420 1.073; bp 195-196°. nD20 1.5030 (almost the same as glass). Practically
insol in water. Miscible with alc, chloroform, ether; sol in glacial
acetic acid. LD50 orally in rats: 1.63 ml/kg, H. F. Smyth et al., Am. Ind. Hyg. Assoc. J. 30, 470
