Extremely hygroscopic, strongly alkaline liq. Rapidly absorbs moisture to form a hemihydrate. d15 0.878 in anhydr form. bp 119-120°. Very sol in water. Keep tightly closed.

Use

In conjunction with cupric sulfate as a very sensitive reagent for mercury.
