Almost colorless liquid. Unpleasant, ammonia-like odor. Fumes in air. Very hygroscopic, also absorbs CO2. bp748 90-91°; d420 0.9097; nD20 1.4664. Strong base. Miscible with water. Sol in alcohol, ether, chloroform.
