Made by heating resorcinol, glacial acetic
acid, and anhydr zinc chloride at 145-150°: Cooper, Org. Synth. 21, 103 (1941); from

Properties
Needles or leaflets, mp 145-147°. Gradually dec by water; sol in
pyridine, in warm alcohol, in glacial acetic acid; practically insol
in benzene, ether, chloroform.Use
Reagent for iron as a 10% alcoholic soln. A red
color is obtained with ferric ions in slightly acid soln: Cooper,
