Obtained by dry distillation of rosin.

Properties

Yellow, viscid, fluorescent, oily liquid. bp >280°. Flammable. Insol in water. Sol in ether, oil turpentine and other oils. It dissolves phosphorus, sulfur, camphor, phenols, and many other organic compds.

Use

Manuf of carbon black for lithography and printing inks; in varnishes, retinol colors, lacquers, brewers' pitch, axle greases.
