Description and references
Constituent of feces, beetroot, nectandra wood,
and coal tar. Obtained by fusing egg albumin with KOH. Toxicity
data: Bin-Ichi, Tohoku J. Exp. Med. 25, 407 (1935).
Properties
White to brownish scales; fecal odor; mp 95°; bp 265-266°. Sol in hot water, alc,
benzene, chloroform, ether. With potassium ferrocyanide and sulfuric
acid it gives a violet color. MLD in frogs (mg/kg): 1000 s.c. (Bin-Ichi).
