Description and references
Sodium hydroxide with lime. A mixture of calcium
oxide with 5-20% sodium hydroxide and contg 6-18% water. It absorbs
25-35% its wt of CO2.
Properties
White or gray-white granules. Rapidly deteriorates
on exposure to air through absorption of carbon dioxide. Keep tightly closed.Caution
Strongly corrosive and irritating
to skin, mucous membranes, eyes. Ingestion can cause severe damage
to G.I. tract, death.Use
To absorb carbon dioxide in basal metabolism tests,
in rebreathing anesthesia systems, in submarines, and in carbon determinations.
