Properties
Colorless, odorless crystals or white granules.
d 2.5. mp 248°; at about 300° liberates
oxygen; entirely dec at higher temp. Sol in about 1 ml cold, 0.5
ml boiling water, about 130 ml alcohol, about 50 ml boiling alcohol,
4 ml glycerol. Sodium chloride diminishes its soly in water. The
aq soln is neutral. Keep out of contact with
organic matter or other oxidizable substances. LD orally in rats: 12000 mg/kg (Ulrich).Use
An oxidizer, like potassium chlorate, in manuf of
dyes; explosives and matches; dyeing and printing fabrics; tanning
and finishing leather. Herbicide. Pharmaceutic aid (oxidizing agent).
Oxidimetric reagent in analytical chemistry.
