Description and references

Prepn: Chelidonic acid is converted to chelidamic acid by the action of NH3, chelidamic acid is iodinated with iodine in a boiling aq alkaline soln, the iodinated product is methylated at the nitrogen with dimethyl sulfate in hot alkaline soln, cf. Crystals, dec around 200° with effervescence. Freely sol in water (1:1). Practically insol in chloroform, ether, acetone, petr ether.
