Antibiotic substance produced by the fungus Sparassis ramosa: Falck, Ber. 56, 2555 (1923). Also obtained in methanol extracts of the lichen Evernia prunasti: Stenhouse, Ann. 68, 55 (1848); Spth, Jeschki, Ber. 57, 471 (1924). Properties

Prisms from water, mp 67-68°. Slightly sol in hot water; freely sol in acetone, ether, chloroform; moderately sol in methanol, ethanol, petr ether. Alkaline hydrolysis yields free everninic acid, mp 170°.
