Properties

Crystals, mp 161°. Fluoresces under ultraviolet light. Practically insol in water. Sol in alkaline aq solns and in solns of wetting agents. Sol in many organic solvents.

Use

Bacteriostat in formulations of surgical soaps, laundry soaps, rinses, polishes, shampoos, deodorants. Also as preservative in textile finishes, certain petroleum products, cellulose esters, cutting oils, coolants.
