Prepd by reaction of POCl3 with butyl alcohol: Pianfetti, Janey, US 3020303 (1962 to FMC). Toxicity study: Smyth, Carpenter, J. Ind. Hyg. Toxicol. 26, 269 (1944).

Properties

Colorless, odorless liq; d2525 0.976; bp 289° with decompn; bp27 177-178°; mp below 80°. Flash pt 146°C. nD25 1.4215. One ml dissolves in about 165 ml water; miscible with usual organic solvents. LD50 orally in rats: 3.0 g/kg (Smyth, Carpenter).

Caution

Use

Plasticizer for cellulose esters, lacquers, plastics, and vinyl resins.
