Properties

Odorless, monoclinic crystals or granules. Efflorescent in air with loss of some NH3. d 1.544. mp ≈80° when rapidly heated. Prolonged heating produces NaPO3. Sol in about 5 parts cold, 1 part boiling water. Practically insol in alcohol. pH of 5% aq soln 7.8 to 8.2.

Use

As reagent for determination of Mg, Zn, and in blowpipe analysis. For standardizing uranium solns. In the prepn of ammonium phosphate and ammonium molybdate stock solns.
