Prepn from diborane and dimethylberyllium: Burg, Schlesinger, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 62, 3425 (1940); from LiBH4 and BeCl2: Schlesinger et al., ibid. 75, 212 (1953).

Properties

Similar to aluminum borohydride, but less volatile. Spontaneously flammable. Sublimes at 91.3°. Dec above 123° without melting. Reacts vigorously with water, HCl to liberate hydrogen.
