Description and references
Prepd by treating aminoazotoluene with acetic
anhydride or with acetyl chloride in the presence of sodium acetate:

Properties
Crystallizes in 2 modifications: Brick-red needles, mp 65°, or stout, red
prisms, mp 75° (resembling
crystals of potassium dichromate). The German Pharmacopoeia recognizes
only a material with mp 74-76° (yellowish-red powder). Insol in water; sol in alcohol, benzene,
chloroform, ether, acetone, fixed oils, fats, petrolatum.Derivative
Mixture with albumin and tetraiodopyrrole.

Topical dermatologic.
Therapeutic Category (Veterinary)
Has been used in ointment or dusting
powder to stimulate wound epitheliazation.
