Description and references

Prepd by treating aminoazotoluene with acetic anhydride or with acetyl chloride in the presence of sodium acetate: DE 253884 (1912 to Kalle); Ettel, Hebky, Collect. Czech. Chem. Commun. 13, 161 (1948). Biological properties: Rerábek et al., C.A. 46, 7234i (1952). Allergenic properties: Jirasek et al., Cesk. Dermatol. 41, 38 (1966).

Chemical structure

Properties

Crystallizes in 2 modifications: Brick-red needles, mp 65°, or stout, red prisms, mp 75° (resembling crystals of potassium dichromate). The German Pharmacopoeia recognizes only a material with mp 74-76° (yellowish-red powder). Insol in water; sol in alcohol, benzene, chloroform, ether, acetone, fixed oils, fats, petrolatum.

Derivative

Mixture with albumin and tetraiodopyrrole.
