Crystals. Slightly bitter taste. mp 130-133°. Freely sol in alcohol, ether, alkaline solns. Practically insol in water (acid to litmus), petr ether, aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Properties

Powder or crystals, bitter taste. Soluble in water, alcohol; slightly sol in ether, chloroform. A 10% aq soln (pH of about 9.5) is alkaline to litmus and phenolphthalein.
