Prepd by condensing dry potassium carbazole
with chloroethyl acetate and saponifying the resulting ester with
35% sodium hydroxide: DE 255304; Chem.

Properties
Leaflets from ethyl acetate, mp 215°. Soluble in ether, glacial
acetic acid, alcohol, chloroform, xylene. On heating to 240-250°
it yields N-methylcarbazole.Derivative
