Description and references

Prepd from chloral and NH3: Schiff, Ber. 10, 165 (1877); Aschan, ibid. 48, 874 (1915). Believed to be a bimolecular compd, Cl3CCH(OH)NHCH(NH2)CCl3.H2O or C4H8Cl6N2O2.

Properties

Crystals, mp 62-64° (Schiff); also reported as mp 72-74° (Aschan). Dissolves slowly in cold water with evolution of NH3. Sol in ether, benzene.
