Prepd by action of mercuric acetate upon hematoporphyrin and treating the product with sodium methoxide: JP 59 1273 (1959); GB 824705 (1959 to Daiichi), C.A. 54, 9972 (1960); Obika et al., US 3004985 (1961 to Daiichi).

Properties

Dark brown powder. Sol in water (a 1:1000 soln is slightly alkaline). Aq solns are affected by light. Slightly sol in methanol. Practically insol in acetone, benzene, chloroform.
