Iodine Pentoxide, Recrystallised

Di-iodine pentoxide, iodic anhydride, iodine pentoxide; I2O5 = 333.8 (12029-98-0)

Content, minimum 99.5%.

White or almost white, crystalline powder, or white or greyish-white granules, hygroscopic, very soluble in water forming HIO3.

Stability on heating Dissolve 2 g, previously heated for 1 hour at 200°, in 50 mL of water. A colourless solution is obtained.

AssayDissolve 0.100 g in 50 mL of water, add 3 g of potassium iodide and 10 mL of dilute hydrochloric acid. Titrate the liberated iodine with 0.1 M sodium thiosulfate, using 1 mL of starch solution as indicator.

1 mL of 0.1 M sodium thiosulfate is equivalent to 2.782 mg of I2O5.

Store in an airtight container, protected from light.
