The main purpose of this figure was to bring the activities of one highly promising project together. A planning software Winproject, selected because of its ease of use, was introduced. The Project Leader coordinated personally to get the rather hierarchically rooted line managers used to the change. |

|
A team was established and investment made in teamwork training. The team suffered from a lack of delegation by line managers and a lack of decision making power. Nevertheless, valuable experience was collected in this period. |

| Project Management in Europe, start multiproject management |

|
|
Bracco continued to grow, extending beyond the Italian border. The company acquired a research group in Geneva, Switzerland (now Bracco Research Geneva) and formed joint ventures in Germany (Bracco-Byk Gulden) and Japan (Bracco-Eisai). The research groups in Switzerland and Italy flourished, proposing several molecules (six) for development. At this point it became obvious that Development needed to be reorganized to handle activities at several sites and manage a number of projects in parallel. |

The President, therefore, established a new function dedicated entirely to Project Planning and Management. The following matrix structures were created: |
