The Project Control Managers responsibility was to facilitate achievement across the three project phases and to formulate options and recommendations for improvement and variance resolution. An example of this was the missile boxes. When the Production Project Manager tried to deliver the first tranche of missiles, the user rejected them, even though the customer had agreed and signed off on the design. The In Service Manager could not persuade the user to accept them because the design of the boxes was impractical for use in his scenario. The Production staff wanted to keep producing the old design but the Chief Engineer was happy to stop production for six months while he developed an alternative design. As Project Manager, I wanted the revenue stream to continue through deliveries. The Project Control Manager persuaded the user to accept the current design while a new design was developed which would be retrofitted to the first batch at
