Providencia stuartii infection
Description
Providencia is a gram-negative urea-metabolizing bacilli that readily incorporates DNA from other bacteria, enabling it to acquire resistance to a broad spectrum of antibiotics. Providencia stuartii is a bacterium normally found in patients with indwelling urinary catheters, where it causes urinary tract infections. These infections may progress to bacteremia.
