Hepatitis A is an infectious disease caused by hepatitis A virus (HAV), also called hepatovirus A, belonging to the Picornaviridae family of +ssRNA viruses. HAV can be transmitted through contaminated food and water. Unlike hepatitis B and C, hepatitis A does not become chronic.
