Sandfly fever is an infectious disease caused by Sandfly fever Naples virus (SFNV), a phlebovirus in the order Bunyavirales of -ssRNA viruses, and transmitted by biting midges and mosquitoes. SFNV was first isolated in 1943 in Italy.
