Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the measles virus, a morbillivirus in the Paramyxoviridae family of -ssRNA viruses. The disease may have existed for thousands of years. The virus was first isolated in 1954 and transformed into a vaccine in 1963 in the USA.
