Description and references

The generally accepted empirical formula is Al2(OH)5Cl.2H2O. Prepd by electrolyzing solns of suitable Al salts: FR 837862 and GB 509815 (both 1939 to I. G. Farben.); H. Huehn, W. Properties

Glassy solid. Dissolves in water, forming slightly turbid colloidal solns (up to 55% w/w). pH of 15% aq soln ≈4.3.

Use

In antiperspirants.
