Properties

Crystals or powder. Slowly oxidizes in air to CaSO4. Slightly sol in water, alcohol; sol in SO2 solns, acids with liberation of SO2.

Use

Preserving cider and other fruit juices; as disinfectant of brewing vats; antichlor in bleaching textiles; in sugar manuf; in paper pulp cooking; in cement.
