Description and references

Prepd by passing HCl gas over heated cyanuric acid: Gattermann, Rossolymo, Ber. 23, 1190 (1890); Gattermann, Ber. 32, 1117 (1899). From ammonia and phosgene at 400°: Rupe, Labhard, Ber. 33, 236 (1900), cf. Gattermann, Ann. 244, 30 (1888).

Properties

Liquid. Acrid, offensive odor. Has been obtained cryst, mp about 50°, bp 61-62° (decompn). Reacts violently on contact with water, forming ammonium chloride and carbon dioxide. During storage it gives off HCl and slowly changes to cyanuric acid.
