Crystals from butanol, mp 121-123°. [α]D27 -43.5° (ethanol). uv max: 218 nm (ε 22770). Sol in ethyl acetate, methanol, ethanol, benzene, toluene, chloroform; sparingly sol in carbon tetrachloride, ether, water. Practically insol in petr ether.
