Description and references

Prepd by reacting tri-p-anisylethylene or tri-p-anisylethanol with Cl in an inert solvent: Basford and I.C.I., GB 561508 (1944). Synthesis from p-(p-anisoyl)anisole: Shelton, Van Campen, Jr., US 2430891 (1947 to Merrell).

Properties

Crystals from methanol, mp 114-116°. Softens at 108°. uv max (chloroform): 310 nm, (E1%1cm 423); min 278 nm. Practically insol in water. Soly in alcohol: 0.28 g/100 ml; in ether: 3.6 g/100 ml. Also sol in glacial acetic acid, acetone, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, vegetable oils.
